The AIAA / Homeland Security Program Committee presents the Homeland Security in Action: Air *
Space * Maritime Conference and Showcase
to address the needs of basic and applied researchers.
The conference will be held at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA Aug 25-29.

Every aspect of working with the Department of Homeland Security critically depends  on the effective
operational employment of Department hardware and systems.  The purpose of the
Homeland Security
in Action
conference is to provide a current overview of exactly these aspects.  Current DHS assets and
capabilities will be presented and a variety of recent successes in the field will be showcased. One of last
year’s most popular sessions was given by Pete McNall, DHS/CBP who brought some fascinating border
interdiction footage.  His presentation provided great insight into how things really happen in the field, and
as a result we have expanded the conference to cover border protection on all fronts - air, space and
maritime.

The Homeland Security in Action conference offers a unique opportunity to ascertain where products
and capabilities fit into the current DHS fleet and concepts of operations.  In addition to learning directly
from users and decision-makers, there are also numerous showcase vehicles - including a poster
exhibition, a half-day hands-on demonstration session, and financial sponsorship of the conference which
includes some speaking slots, and considerable name/brand exposure.

Representatives from organizations including the Department of Homeland Security S&T, GE Homeland
Protection, Booz Allen Hamilton, NASA, Oak Ride National Laboratory, the Homeland Security Institute,
Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, SPAWAR, and many local first
responders, attended the 2007 conference.  The 2008 conference is directed at participants who are
interested in seeing how current systems are being utilized; to engage in discussions on operations; and to
represent what their organization or industry can contribute.

Attendance will be limited to ~400.  Early registration is encouraged and on-site registration will not be
possible due to NPS gate procedures.  A small block of rooms is being held under a negotiated rate at the
Monterey Hyatt Regency, adjacent to the conference site.
